AKRON-CANTON AIRPORT SETS NEW PASSENGER RECORD





Green, OH: Supported in part by new AirTran Airways flights, Akron-Canton Airport (CAK)



posted a new single-month record for origin and destination (O&D) passengers in June, hosting more than 104,000 travelers, nearly 19,000 more than last year. It is the first time in airport history that flyers exceeded 100,000. The mark topped May.s total of total 97,247, the previous record.  The June total is a 22 percent increase over June 2002. For the first half of the year, more than 530,440 fliers have passed through the terminal, a 25 percent increase over 2002.



 



AirTran Airways, Delta Connection, United Express and Northwest Airlink each



experienced increased boardings compared to June last year. AirTran began a fifth Atlanta flight on June 14 and began a third New York LaGuardia flight on July 2. Delta Connection added a seventh flight to its Cincinnati hub in May and is added a fifth to Atlanta yesterday. .We are just tickled to host over 100,000 passengers,. said airport director Fred Krum. "We continue to focus on the customer experience, keeping it easy, efficient and safe. Passengers find Akron-Canton Airport a better way to go and we plan to keep it that way."

Airways Express serve the growing Akron-Canton market. The airport is currently in the midst of a $50 million, five-year expansion project including longer runways, an expanded terminal (including a new second-level loading concourse and a food court with national brands) and a new interchange south of the airport at Shuffel Road.
