Green, OH: Low fares, convenient nonstop service and a better customer experience are proving to be a powerful combination to attract additional passengers at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK). A total of 119,242 customers traveled to and from CAK in April 2009, an 8 percent increase from April 2008 beating it by more than 8,800 customers. The airport's best April ever was in 2006.

"It is a privilege to serve more passengers every year," said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. "In these uncertain economic times, customers are looking for low airfares, high quality carriers and a relaxing airport experience, and we are committed to offering it all."

The boost in passengers was driven by US Airways Express and AirTran Airways.US Airways Express saw an increase of 43 percent compared to April of last year carrying a total of 16,247 passengers. Strong boardings on the carrier's new nonstop service to Washington, D.C. contributed to the large increase. The service began in January and has stimulated the local market by more than 1,000 percent. AirTran Airways was also up a whopping 17 percent from April 2008 with 57,018 total passengers for the month, 8,425 more than last year. United Express also gained a 9 percent increase with 6,312 passengers.

CAK is running ahead for the first four months of the year too. Through April, the airport has welcomed a total 442,456 passengers, a 2.35 percent increase compared to the same four months in 2008.This is particularly noteworthy since CAK broke an all time passenger record last year.
