Jessica Travis

About

J Travis is a self-taught visual artist in Akron, Ohio. She is a wife and mother of two boys. She became an artist at age 6. She treasured special time with her mother, who was a single parent. They would draw and color as a form of bonding. She has also noted her Akron Public Schools Art Teachers, who were supportive and nurturing of her natural creative talents.

Travis created Inspiring Canvases during the height of the pandemic. Her art, specifically her paintings, sparks the viewer's imagination and inspires creativity in others.

She has had artwork featured in Summa Healthcare Hospital, Weathervane Theater, and the Akron Black Artist Guild exhibition. She often donates artwork to schools, libraries, and local small businesses as a way of spreading inspiration in her community.

Artist Statement:

J believes her responsibilities as an artist are to provide resources and opportunities for creators and the uncreatives to own inimitable works of art.

About

I grew up in Hocking Hills and graduated from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. I have an Associates in Art, Bachelor in Communication and a Masters in Information & Telecommunication Systems. Go Bobcats!!

I have lived in Plain Township/Stark County for 23 years. My husband Bryan is a Retired United States Air Force Master Sergeant (22 years served) and we’ve known one another since we were 12 years old! We share 6 children and 5 grandchildren who live all over the country (Seattle, Georgia, Connecticut and Florida) but we’ve filled the house with 4 dogs, 4 cats, and almost a dozen Koi. Our extended family all still reside in Hocking Hills.

I’ve been working as an artist since high school. I would draw logos for area businesses and started down my college path as an art teacher. I quickly fell in love with computers so I changed majors to include networking and website development. I kept my creativity going with graphic design and today I enjoy combining technology and traditional art. I love freelancing to help small businesses with their creative needs and using my 35+ years of marketing experience to help them reach their audience or expand their network. I volunteer with many organizations and love working with the public. As a professional artist, I’ve been fortunate to paint several murals in our community. My niche is Augmented Reality art. Augmented Reality let’s you experience additional features, usually animation, with traditional art using technology. I create animations, usually frame by frame style, of my traditional paintings and use a free app that I’ve partnered with called Artivive. Viewers can download the app, open it on a mobile device and point it towards my work and watch it come to life. I love that I have had the opportunity to support many non-profits with art and digital marketing like Stark Hunger Task Force, Aultman Health Foundation, Avenue Arts, and ArtsinStark.

Download Artivive to view the augmented reality component of my composition here.
