Green, OH: More and more travelers across Northeast Ohio are getting happy at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK). New flight options and low fares attracted more than 147,300 passengers to and from CAK in June, making it the airport's busiest June of all time. It's also the airport's second best month ever; just a few thousand passengers shy of the airport's all-time busiest month (July 2008) when more than 149,700 passengers used CAK.The June passenger figure was up 11 percent compared to 2009, by more than 14,000, and crushed the airport's previous best June (2006) by more than 13,000. This is the airport's fourth monthly record in 2010. For the first six months of the year 756,775 passengers have traveled to and from CAK, a 9 percent increase compared to 2009.

"We are so pleased to make more Northeast Ohio travelers happy at Akron-Canton Airport," said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. "We focus on what really matters- exceptional airline service and a relaxing airport experience. Couple that with the lowest average fare in the State of Ohio, and you can see why so many new travelers find CAK a better way to go."

Nearly every carrier experienced an increase during the month. AirTran Airways, which added extra flights to New York and Orlando, carried 66,433 total passengers for the month, a 10 percent increase compared to June 2009. Plus, new flights to Milwaukee offered by SkyWest Airlines in partnership with AirTran Airways added another 5,000 passengers. US Airways Express, which added an extra daily flight to Charlotte, was up 26 percent. Frontier Airlines, which began flying the large and comfortable162-seat Airbus 320 to and from CAK in June, saw a 16 percent increase.
