Akron-Canton Airport has busiest January ever-beats record from 2010
Green, OH: Not even snow and freezing rain could keep sun seeking travelers away from the Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) in January. Against all-weather odds, more than 111,700 passengers traveled to and from CAK during the month, up 5 percent compared to January 2010.
"This is an extraordinary start to the year," said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. "It is so gratifying to welcome customers from throughout the region, many of whom battled tough weather conditions just to get here. They come for the first time for our low, low fares and come back time and again for the relaxing airport experience that accompanies the great prices. It is what makes CAK a better way to go."
Passenger traffic was up on nearly all airlines that offer flights at the airport. AirTran Airways, offering nonstop service to Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Myers, Atlanta, New York and Boston increased 3 percent compared to January 2010. Plus, SkyWest Airlines' (in partnership with AirTran Airways) flights to Milwaukee contributed to the record; up 50 percent from last year with more than 3,000 passengers. US Airways, with flights to Charlotte, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. (Reagan), increased by 38 percent compared to last year. Additionally, Frontier Airlines with nonstop flights to Denver and United Express, flying to Chicago O' Hare, were up 16 percent and 10 percent respectively.
