Green, OH: June 2011 wasn’t just any record-breaking month at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK); it was the big kahuna, the big cheese, the major-league of all months. With 151,115 passengers traveling to/from CAK, the monthly record marks the best month in our 64-year history. This beats the old record, set in July 2008, by 1,358 passengers. Compared to the same month last year, the airport hosted 3,809 more passengers in June 2010; a 2.6 percent increase. For the first half of the year, 783,000 travelers flew to/from CAK, up 3.4 percent compared with the first six months of 2010.

Passengers aboard AirTran Airways, a wholly owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines, increased 6 percent compared to June 2010 carrying 70,600 passengers to six nonstop destinations including Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, New York and Boston. Plus, SkyWest Airlines’ (in partnership with AirTran) flights to Milwaukee posted a 5 percent gain. Frontier Airlines with nonstop flights to Denver gained 2 percent. Delta Air Lines, offering nonstop flights to Atlanta and Detroit, was up 2.5 percent compared to last year. US Airways, offering nonstop flights to Charlotte, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, carried 20,442 passengers.
