Green, OH: Eighteen months in a row? Say it ain’t so! But it is. It’s another record breaking month at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK). The airport marked its busiest September in history with passenger traffic surging 10 percent compared to September 2012. For the month, 153,314 passengers flew in/out of CAK. That figure surpasses our previous best September (2011) by 14,468 and also marks the 18th consecutive monthly record. Year-to-date passenger traffic is up 11 percent compared to the first nine months of 2011. 

“Customers love low fares and a great airport experience; and nobody can deliver that combination like Akron-Canton Airport,” said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. “We don’t take our growth for granted though. Each new customer is a gift and we’ll keep working hard to ensure a great experience every time they fly CAK.”

Passenger traffic was up on all airlines serving the airport. Southwest Airlines, which started service in August with nonstop service to Chicago Midway and Denver, carried 16,777 passengers. AirTran Airways (now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines) offering nonstop service to Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Myers, Atlanta, New York, and Boston moved 55,030 total passengers. United with flights to Chicago O’Hare increased by 16 percent. Frontier Airlines flying nonstop to Denver was up 13 percent compared to last year. Delta, flying to Atlanta and Detroit and US Airways, with flights to Charlotte, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. (Reagan), increased by 10 percent and six percent respectively.
