AKRON-CANTON AIRPORT SETS DAILY PASSENGER RECORD

Green, OH: Passengers are springing into Akron-Canton airport (CAK) in record numbers today.

More than 2700 travelers are heading out for spring vacations and holiday gatherings accounting for a 95.4 percent load factor (percentage of seats sold) on the five carriers offering flights from CAK. AirTran, the airport's largest carrier (by passenger volume) is 100 percent full on all outbound flights today.

"It is a real pleasure to serve passengers in Northeast Ohio," said airport director Fred Krum. "All

indicators point to another fantastic year at Akron-Canton."  Contributing to the airports incredible momentum, Frontier Airlines will begin new service to its Denver International Airport (DEN) hub beginning June 15, 2005. The two daily non-stops between Denver and Akron-Canton will utilize Frontier's new Airbus aircraft, with 33 inches of legroom, 24 channels of LiveTV and pay-per-view movies. The new service will also connect Northeast Ohio to dozens of Frontier

Airport traffic has grown 192 percent since 1996, when the airport's first affordable fare carrier

AirTran Airways began service here. In 2004, US Airways Express also significantly enhanced service to Charlotte and added new flights to Philadelphia. Delta Connection also added larger seventy seat aircraft to both Cincinnati and Atlanta.  The airport is currently in the third phase of the $60 million, five-year STAR expansion project, which focuses on building a new $24 million gate concourse and a new Shuffel Road interchange. The first two phases included longer runways, a new baggage claim wing, additional car parking and a food court with national brands.
