Statement About Disease Prevention and Control at Akron-Canton Airport

The safety, security and comfort of our passengers is our number one priority at the Akron-Canton Airport. Our operations and management personnel have been in dialog with the Summit County Health Department regarding proper procedures and protocols for dealing with infectious diseases, including Ebola. The Summit County Health Department, our long-time partner in public health issues, referred us to the CDC guidelines for airports and airlines, which we are reviewing and implementing as appropriate. At this point, all our work is precautionary, preliminary and preemptive.

The number of known cases is still extremely low in the United States. There have been no cases identified at the Akron-Canton Airport. Frontier Airlines does not fly to CAK, so there is no possibility of contamination from customers on that airline. We are monitoring the situation closely and are ready to work with our aviation partners (airlines, TSA, concessions, etc…) as necessary. Our CAK cleaning crews always pay especially close attention to using strong anti-virus/ bacterial cleaners on items like door knobs, escalator railings and, of course, our rest rooms. While cleaning, our standard custodial protocol is to use safety glasses or shields and gloves to protect our employees from potential sickness.

At this point, there are no changes in the check-in procedures, security checkpoint or boarding procedures at CAK.
