Akron-Canton Airport has busiest March ever, beats record from 2006
Green, OH: Spring break travelers gave a big boost to passenger figures at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK).
Nearly 136,000 passengers traveled to and from CAK, making it the airport's busiest March of all time. That figure is up 11 percent compared to 2009 and beats the airport's previous best March by 5,873 passengers which was in 2006. For the first three months of the year, more than 347,000 passengers traveled to/from CAK, a 7.3 percent increase compared to 2009.
"We are thrilled that more and more Northeast Ohio travelers choose to start their flight at CAK," said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. "Great flight options, big jet service, low fares and a more relaxing experience are just a few of the reasons customers try CAK and then come back again. We are so grateful to our airline partners and our customers for making us a better way to go."
AirTran Airways, which added an extra flight to Orlando for spring break, carried 67,000 total passengers for the month, an increase of 11 percent compared to March 2009. Plus, the new flights AirTran Airways offers in partnership with SkyWest Airlines to Milwaukee added another 5,000 during the month.United Express enjoyed a 14 percent increase compared to March 2009. Finally, Delta and US Airways were up 13 percent and 1 percent respectively.
