AKRON-CANTON LEAST EXPENSIVE AIR MARKET IN NORTHEAST OHIO

Green, OH: Passengers flying out of Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) are paying less than passengers at almost all US airports according to the US Department of Transportation's fourth quarter Domestic Airline Fares Consumer Report.CAK ranked the sixth least expensive airport behind only Atlantic City, NJ, Long Beach, CA, St. Petersburg, FL, Chicago Midway and Long Island, NY.In the same report, Cincinnati, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Cleveland ranked in the top 40 most expensive air fare markets in the US.

"While we congratulate Cleveland Hopkins on offering lower fares than their expensive hub peers, passengers looking for a really good deal in Northeast Ohio need only visit our web site, akroncantonairport.com," said airport director Fred Krum. "CAK has offered the lowest average fare in the State of Ohio for the past five years thanks to low fare juggernaut AirTran Airways' service from here. Passengers looking for a great fare and a great experience know to check CAK every time they fly," Krum said.

Two of America's leading low fare carriers AirTran Airways and Frontier Airlines offer nonstop service from Akron-Canton Airport. AirTran Airways flies nonstop from CAK to Atlanta, New York (LaGuardia), Boston, Orlando, and Tampa and offers connecting flights to 23 additional cities. Frontier Airlines flies to its westbound Denver hub aboard big, comfy Airbus jets with satellite TV in every seatback. These two low fare carriers have significantly reduced air fares in this market.

The airport opened its new, spacious, four-gate passenger concourse in early May. AirTran Airways operates its big jet flights from three gates and Frontier Airlines will operate from the fourth later this summer. The concourse is the centerpiece of the airport's $60 million, five-year STAR expansion project. Other elements of STAR included longer runways, a new baggage claim wing, additional car parking and a food court with national brands. Additional information including flight reservations, real time arrivals and departures, and a blog port is available at www.akroncantonairport.com, CAK's new web portal.
