AKRON-CANTON AIRPORT SETS SECOND 2005 PASSENGER RECORD

Green, OH: And the beat goes on. Low fares, shorter lines and a better overall customer experience are winning over more and more northeastern Ohio passengers to Akron-Canton Airport (CAK). For the second consecutive month, the airport posted a new single-month record for origin and destination (O&D) passengers in July, hosting more than 144,000 travelers. Total passengers increased 10.3 percent compared to last July, when 131,000 passengers used CAK. The mark topped last month's total of 133,000 travelers, the previous single-month record. Year-to-date more than 820,000 travelers have used the airport compared to 775,000 last year, a 6 percent increase. The July figure is also a first, representing the first time total passengers have exceeded 140,000 in a single-month.

"We never tire of breaking records and offering the public more of what they want," said airport director Fred Krum. "Our customers frequently tell us that flying CAK takes some of the edge off of their total travel experience. We are committed to offering more amenities, clean facilities, short walks, and less hassle. It's what makes us a better way to go."

In June Frontier Airlines commenced affordably priced, nonstop service to Denver aboard big, comfy A319 jets with satellite TV in every seatback; and AirTran Airways announced new flights to Las Vegas (that began August 4th) aboard their brand new Boeing 737 aircraft. The airport is currently in the third phase of the $60 million, five-year STAR expansion project, including a $24 million gate concourse and a new Shuffel Road interchange. The first two phases included longer runways, a new baggage claim wing, additional car parking and a food court with national brands.
