Hesitate and you're lost. We've all heard that one before. But with the drastic changes taking place in the airline industry, now would be the time for passengers to be proactive with their future flight reservations. Airlines are cutting back drastically on their personnel and flight schedules. Luckily CAK has not seen much of a decrease in schedules, but other airports have taken large hits. How does this affect you? Maybe not from CAK, but how about that connection flight through Atlanta or Charlotte, for example? I highly recommend that before your trip, check your itinerary with the air carrier, even as close as a week before departure.
With airplanes operating at near capacity on their reduced schedules, your options may become less desirable if changes are made by them late in the game. The carriers certainly are trying to be proactive in notification of flight changes, but you might have more options if you contact them when changes are made. They'll usually allow you to adjust your flight times if your flight was cancelled for one reason or another. It might allow you to leave later in the day to add some hours to your vacation. Depending on schedules and availability, maybe you can get an extra day out of the changes. Those in the know will work to create a destiny of their own.
While we're on the subject, please be aware that carriers are cutting back on staff to try to stay afloat. This means that the wise traveler will give himself/herself some extra time to check in at airline ticket counters. With some carriers charging for checked bags, this requires financial transactions at check-in counters. All this adds up to the possibility of longer waits. Please try to be patient. Instead of cutting yourself very little time at the airport, make it a relaxing trip by allowing a margin of error. You'll find it much less stressful. And, at CAK you might have time for a fabulous omelet, made to order at the Buckhead Grill; or how about the signature hamburger? They're both delicious. If you need a great shoeshine, stop and see Kirby across from our Subway. He's a very spiritual man, and is sure to brighten your day! Time spent planning might bring you additional time for a great holiday or business trip. Grasp the summer!
